About FLAC
What is FLAC?
FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec. It is a method of retaining all the data from a CD-quality 44.1kHz 16bit .WAV file, but at around 60% to 70% of the original file size! This helps save your disk space and helps reduce our bandwidth costs, but without the resultant quality loss that is inherent with MP3.
How can I play FLAC files?
You can play .FLAC directly in Ableton Live and Traktor. If you need to convert to another format (such as .WAV) you can find the required tool for your OS here. For Windows we recommend dbPowerAmp (commercial software with a 21 day trial that converts between many different formats, well worth the $36 asking price) or alternatively use the FLAC binaries in conjunction with FLACdrop. For Apple Mac we recommend the FLAC tools in conjunction with MacFLAC.
VLC (free and available for all Operating Systems) will also play FLAC directly.
